An Apex crew member secures a rider in her wheelchair inside an Apex van

Using your insurance

Insurance

Apex doesn't bill insurance directly, but your plan may still help pay for your ride. Start with a call to your insurance.

Coverage

Call your insurance first

Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask whether your plan covers non-emergency medical rides. If it does, it usually works one of two ways:

  • ReimbursementYou book and pay Apex for the ride, then send your receipt to your plan to be paid back.
  • A transportation brokerSome plans arrange rides through a transportation broker, who schedules the trip with a provider. Ask your plan how to request a ride and which providers it works with.

Questions to ask your plan

  • Do you cover non-emergency rides to medical appointments?
  • Do you reimburse rides I pay for myself?
  • What do I need to send: a receipt, a claim form, a note from my doctor?
  • Do you arrange rides through a transportation broker?

Can Apex bill my insurance?
No. We don't bill insurance plans directly. If your plan reimburses rides, you pay Apex and send your receipt to your plan.
Will I get a receipt I can send to my plan?
Yes. Ask dispatch for a receipt after your ride.
My plan uses a transportation broker. Can I ride with Apex?
Ask the broker which providers it works with and how to request one. You can also book with Apex directly as a self-pay ride.
What if my plan doesn't cover rides at all?
You can still ride with Apex and pay for the ride yourself. Dispatch quotes the trip before anything is booked.
